Look at this girl. She’s crying. Guess why? I was on my routine kampung walkabout when I stopped by at her dilipidated rented house last Monday the 7th of September. It was near Kg. Surau Pasir. The father was no where to be found. The mother left the family long time ago. She later told me that the father, who is a carpenter, had gone out for work leaving her to take care of all the little brothers and sister. Imagine, only four of them at home!

So why was she crying? She’s only 11 and yet she has to stop schooling because nobody was to take care of her siblings while their father was at work. She was a very bright student I was told. By her facial expression and body language, I knew she was smart.

At the mention of school, she started to cry.

So this is what I did. I asked my officer who was with me to make sure that she’s reinstated back at her school – SK Tengku Ampuan Meriam. Arrangement will be made so that her non-schooling siblings will be sent to nursery or pre-school. She need not worry of them anymore. My office will bear the costs of her schooling expenses. The fees of the nursery will be taken care too.

Now that Hari Raya is approaching, Puteri Umno Kuala Terengganu will bring all the kids to buy some clothes and shoes for the big day! No one will be left out.
